Site-Specific Training

Site specific training is conducted at your location and will be tailored specifically to train your staff on your low and/or high course elements. Two general types of training include Basic Training and On-going Training.
Basic Training is typically included in the bid and construction process for new facilities. This initial training includes the minimum information and practical skills necessary to ensure facilitators can operate their course. Depending on the type of course you have, training may include:

  • knots
  • sequencing concepts
  • facilitation
  • basic course maintenance and inspection
  • use and care of operational equipment
  • belaying techniques
  • low- and high course element set-up, use, and take-down

Ideally, you will want your Basic Training to be 40 hours in length because this will meet the training requirement for Level I Certification. Depending on the needs of your program, your basic training may be less than 40 hours. Although an abbreviated training (less than 40 hours) may give you the basic skills needed to operate your course, additional training hours will be needed to meet certification requirements.

On-going Training occurs after the initial training. This training may include similar topics to the Basic Training or it may extend beyond that scope. On-going training is a sort of continuing education for your facilitators and is based on the experience of your employees as well as any program requirements you may have. For example, your program has experienced high staff turnover and you now have half of your facilitators without the basic skills. In this situation, CDI will customize a training that will provide both refresher training for returning staff as well as teach the basic skills to your new staff. Another scenario might be that you would like more advanced training on facilitation, including in-depth instruction in de-briefing or program planning. The length of any on-going training is dependent on the topics or skills to be covered. We’ll be happy to help you develop appropriate training for your staff.
